September 2011
On the 4th September Oughterard was part of the route for the Ironman 70.3 endurance event. The town provided 50 people to man a feeding station in the cycle. It was a very early start with the station having to be set up by 7.00am and the road from Galway – Maam Cross completely closed to traffic for 7 hours. Well, while it was very enjoyable manning the station, the weather was dreadful – so much so we posted a short video on Youtube!
