April 2012

Oughterard Accommodation

There has been some excellent fishing in recent days – we got a nice bag of trout  on the 9th using wetfly olive patterns under the surface.

8th April 2012

The RAS Connemara took place over the Easter Weekend. There was some excellent sport – with a time trial and race around the Glann – high road circuit.

7th April 2012

The staff of the old Western Fisheries Board held a fishing competition on Good Friday on Lough Corrib. Myself and Declan Gibbons fished around Oughterard and met great sport. In total 11 trout were boated all on wetflies! Sadly for me most were to Declan’s rod! Declan kept three and threw back a few more keepers. Interestingly we met many 12 inch fish, the fish were taking Olive and Golden olive patterns! – From the current weather conditions it is probable that the mayfly will start early this year!

2nd April 2012

The Connemarthon and the Development 50 fishing competition took place at the weekend. There was wonderful weather for a road race and fine weather for the fishing. Plenty of fish were caught but some of the old reliables failed to shine – it was good to see Eamonn Molloy and his brother Mike take the trophy.

We are now apparently going to have a few very cold days – a welcome development for those hoping for the arrival of the Mayfly to be delayed! We are expecting Olive fishing in the coming few weeks so lame sure to put the Corrib on your list.
