August 2012

Oughterard Accommodation

On the 15th August 2012 the leaving certificate results came out. Christopher achieved his objective in points – here he is pictured with the proud parents – he’s off to College in Dublin.

This year was the 10th anniversary of the death of Professor Graham Shaw from Windgates in Co. Wicklow. Graham was a very keen angler and campaigner for the plight of wild salmon and sea trout. His ashes were scattered in Lough Corrib and three generations of the Shaw family came to Camillaun and placed a wreath in the lake in honour of Graham. Afterwards a photo was taken on a bench dedicated to Graham.

A recent trip to the Erriff yielded two salmon – one each – Christopher caught one on beat 3 and I had one from the Gauge Pool – it’s certainly the premier salmon fishery in Connemara.
