Since our last newsletter, the clocks went forward but the seasons went backwards, with Arctic winds and freezing temperatures, one could be mistaken in thinking it was January not April.
We have had a great range of visitors to Camillaun Lodge in the intervening time. We had ultra marathon runners, who ended up in hospital due to hypothermia, Maam Turk Challengers who took 12 hours to hike the Maam Turk range, anglers braving the icy winds and a few normal tourists too! I have to say Greg gave great attention to the poor Swedish lady ultra marathon runner who suffered from hyopthermia, staying with her in A&E until 3am !
A lovely couple from Italy Francesca and Eric stayed with us in mid April and despite the harsh conditions went fishing, they caught a beautiful brown trout which I cooked for them for their dinner, they were in heaven!
A beautiful brownie A very pleased angler
and a very pleased companion
Oughterard is really coming alive with many new businesses opening up, plenty of restaurants and all excellent. It is great to see new life in the village. There are also some great events taking place, last weekend saw the International Angling and Golf weekend, which brought a nice buzz to the town
The golfers went to Ballinrobe on Saturday and the angling was on Lough Corrib on Saturday and Sunday.
