Autumn Special-Discover Oughterard, the Gateway to Connemara

Hello friends,

October is always a lovely month in Connemara with plenty of beautiful walks, cycles and golf on offer, the leaves are turning a lovely russet and there are many autumn delights to find.

Greg has harvested our honey, we now have fifteen pots of liquid goal which will hopefully sustain us over the winter, we have promised some people a jar -they are very special!

It’s hard to believe that we are now into the final month of the fishing season with just one week left, so think about casting a final line before the end of the season. We have boats and accommodation available next week.

Lough Corrib is fishing well, dapping the cricket and grasshopper has resulted in some excellent catches by local anglers with some trout as heavy as 4lb been taken

Day 1:

In the morning walk the Glann loop (10km) as part of the Western Way, packed lunch included

In the afternoon relax and enjoy the lodge’s facilities including the Jacuzzi  and games room or discover the tranquil Bog walk,

Later head into the village by foot and enjoy the many restaurants and pubs with its great choice of menus and music

Day 2:

1 hour self-drive to Connemara National Park, climb Diamond Hill, return to Lodge and relax and enjoy facilities, packed lunch or afternoon tea included

Discover the delights of Oughterard, visit nearby Aughnanure Castle and Glengowla Mines or drop into the local candle makers. Discover the great choice of local restaurants and pubs. Oughterard village goes from strength to strength. It really is a great base to explore the surrounding countryside

We hope to see you before we close the lodge on the 26th of October for the winter, if not  we will be reopening on the 1st of March 2017 and look forward to welcoming you back ihopefully in the near future
