With the planned opening up of inter-county travel from the 10th May it is perfect timing for a trip to Lough Corrib for the Mayfly. During the week there were plenty of Mayflies popping up in Oughterard bay in a virtual flat calm – that was after the hailstorm about 30 minutes earlier! Yes, it was cold (about 3 degrees below normal) and the May bush is only opening but by next week the Mayfly will be much more plentiful. If not there are good hatches of Olives if you are patient stalking the wary trout.
