Derryclare mountain is always a favourite that must be climbed each summer. The views throughout the climb are always amazing. Ok, so there are many false summits – so you must temper your companions expectations that the 10 cairns they come across on the way up are not the top! But, if the weather is clear – the views from the top are fabulous. Once on the ridge it is also pretty dry and an easy trail – unlike some of the other climbs in Connemara. One advantage is that you can nearly always see where you started from even near the top. Once at the top you can look straight across at Lough Inagh Lodge! There is one place where its bit of a scramble – but overall a very rewarding climb. Don’t forget to bring good boots, plenty of water as well as some chocolate!
